Baked Falafel: Detox recipe 19 of 21October 26, 2012
Welcome to 21 Days of Detoxing with clean, whole, real food! Yep, we’re at it again with another awesomely motivated group. Registration is now closed for the fall detox but I’ll run it again in a few months and then YOU can hop on the feel-good train! And from now until October 28th you can get a new recipe each day by subscribing to my RSS feed.
There’s more than 1 way to wake up in the morning.
Sure, your eyes open. You yawn and stretch. But I’m going to tell you something – the past few days I’ve felt this strange sensation upon waking.
Clarity. Like a new pair of eyeglass on my brain. Crystal clear up in here.
It’s hard to explain but it’s so amazing I want to try, so you understand. Can you take the relaxed feeling of a glass of wine and mix it with the energy of a toddler, then wash it down with Windex and see it sparkle in the sun?
THAT’S the feeling. And I want to keep it. So even though we only have 2 days left of our detox I feel really compelled to stick to eating clean. Like. Super clean. Because I love this.
Thanks to Jessica at Beaming with Health for another yummy detox-friendly recipe:
2 cups cooked garbanzo beans/chickpeas (cook yourself or use canned)
1 tsp. curry powder
2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 Tbl. extra virgin olive oil
2 Tbl. fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 Tbl. brown rice flour (or other flour)
Sea salt to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add all ingredients to a food processor and process until mixed well. I like the mixture to still have some whole garbanzo beans in it. You can also mash the mixture yourself in a bowl with a potato masher.
Take the mixture and form into balls. Place on a greased cookie sheet and flatten with the palm of your hand. Bake for about 20-30 minutes or until slightly brown and crispy on the outside.
Add your falafel to a wrap or salad and drizzle with tahini sauce. Top with tomatoes and cucumbers for a delicious meal. I believe you could even freeze your falafel to take out for a quick meal on a later date.
