Real food ranch dressing recipe (Dairy-free, sugar-free)

Dairy-free, vegan, sugar-free ranch dressingSeveral weeks ago this photo of my ranch dressing got a lot of attention on Instagram and Facebook.

Apparently, everyone likes ranch. Me too!

But here’s what I don’t like about the classic Hidden Valley Ranch we all grew up with:

Soybean Oil, Water, Egg Yolk, Sugar, Salt, Cultured Nonfat Buttermilk, Natural Flavors (Soy), Spices, less than 1% of: Dried Garlic, Dried Onion, Vinegar, Phosphoric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Modified Food Starch, Monosodium Glutamate, Artificial Flavors, Disodium Phosphate, Sorbic Acid and Calcium Disodium EDTA as Preservatives, Disodium Inosinate and Disodium Guanylate.

Anything that starts with a low-quality processed oil and ends with the word “Guanylate” does not belong in my body, or yours. And why, oh why, does every salad dressing need sugar in it? Ridiculous.

This is what we need to change about our food, in my opinion. It’s not about choosing between paleo or vegan or whatever. It’s just about cleaning the junk out and eating…real food.

Anyway, this has been a favorite recipe from my Reinvent Clean Living Immersion program for some time. But then I found myself making it again. And again. Using it for salads. Dipping veggies. Even topping eggs.

I determined that we all need ranch in our lives. So here it is, my gift to you. Promise me you’ll never buy the bottled stuff again. Pretty please?

Real Food Ranch Dressing (Dairy-free, sugar-free)

Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted cashews
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 3 lemons)
  • 1 Tbl. dried parsley
  • 1 Tbl. dried dill
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1½ tsp. salt
Instructions
  1. Soak cashews in water overnight. Alternatively, you can soak cashews in boiling water for 1 hour.
  2. Drain and rinse cashews.
  3. Combine all ingredients in blender or food processor until smooth.
