After many emails and Facebook messages asking “When’s the next detox?” I’m happy to announce we’re going to do another fantastic 21 days together this spring! Woohoo! Interested? Keep reading.
Feeling tired? Sluggish? Stuck in a rut? When you change your food, your life automatically changes with it. It has to ā your food literally becomes the tissues of your body and brain. Are you ready to walk into spring feeling confident, energized and focused?
It all starts now! Spring detox dates are April 30th – May 21st. (Just reading this now? You can still sign up! Registration open through 5/6/11.)
I’m off dairy again. Had to happen. During my pregnancy I craved milk, cheese, yogurt. And that’s fine because in organic, full fat, unsweetened form that stuff is great for growing a baby!
But come springtime, it’s not so good for my sinuses. Nope. Dairy creates mucus in the body, and I definitely do not need more mucus in the spring. Another reason to get off the white stuff is that milk protein can be notoriously difficult for little ones to digest. By staying off dairy, hopefully Danny and I both will be free of tummy upset and stuffed noses. Hooray!
Have you ever gone off dairy? Do you find it difficult?
I’m on a bender. Every day I’ve got my drinky drink blended up and swallowed down before you can say “diaper change.” See, after my c-section I was feeling really icky. Unable to move for a few days, full of IV fluid and drugs…boy oh boy did I want something to make me feel better when I got home from the hospital!
That’s where it began.
I’m talking green smoothies, people.
While the rest of the world chugs beer and paints glittery shamrocks on their cheeks, I’m celebrating St. Patty’s Day my own way.
I’m talking about your clothes. Your sheets. Your towels. I mean, have you ever thought about the fabric that touches you all day and night? It’s just one of many ways that our bodies become overwhelmed with toxins and in need of a fresh start now and then.
One of the best reasons to cook is to give yourself a creative outlet. A tasty creative outlet at that!
Yesterday my brain performed a master feat – simultaneously combining 4 different recipes I’d seen online earlier in the day into 1 healthy, easy to make dinner that used up a ton of random ingredients in my fridge.
Dear Brain,
Thank you!
Love,
Michelle
In case you’re wondering what these four recipes were, I’ll tell you:

Where do you begin when you’re trying to eat healthy? Should you ban all fried food? Start counting calories? I know, I know, how about using protein powders? It really can be confusing.
There are a gabillion dietary theories out there, and it may surprise you to know that I don’t believe any one of them is the answer. Nope, not Paleo, not South Beach, not veganism, not macrobiotics. That’s not to say these theories are wrong. I just don’t believe there can be one way of eating that works for everyone, all of the time. So tell your diet-crazed neighbor to take a chill pill.
You’re gonna find out what works for you!
Here are 8 ways that you, or anyone, can upgrade your diet starting today. And they’re simple, just like eating should be.
The trees are down, the baked goods are eaten, the necessary gifts have been exchanged…I’d say the holiday season is official over.
Except for one thing. One nagging little reminder.
If you’re like most people (including myself) the holidays included some sugary yumminess. And that’s ok. It’s cool. We enjoyed it. But the problem? It’s weeks later and the sugary urges are still there. The cravings. The continued permission to indulge coming through in whispered voices in our heads.
It’s that sugar-powered hamster wheel again, folks. And once you get on, man oh man it’s hard to get off! For the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed that around 3pm I can’t get my hand out of the chocolate chips. If I had any other sweets in the house, they’d be calling my name too.
So. What do you do? How do you break free? Well, certainly not with guilt. And definitely not with deprivation or punishment.
“I will not eat sugar. I will not eat sugar. Ok, if I eat sugar then I’m not allowed to eat anything else the rest of the day. Blah blah blah.”
Ever had a bad haircut? I’m assuming yes, especially if your hair is on the shorter side or if you’ve had to change hair stylists. UGH. That’s what happened to me a few weeks ago when my stylist changed locations and I couldn’t find him. I was desperate after seeing a picture of my pregnant self…I was like, man, I could at least fix my hair! So I went and trusted a totally new person to give me a cut and that was a very, very bad idea.
Anyway, I ended up in tears when I got home and realized that even my beloved Chi straight iron couldn’t make sense of these feathery layers.
Unfortunately, I had to make a video. And though I was psyched to be asked to contribute to Harvard Pilgrim’s wellness site…I was less psyched about showing off this hair.
It’s happened again. Another set of 21 Day Detoxers have turned down the volume on their taste buds and are beginning to appreciate the subtle sweet flavors of food. To say “ick” to soda. To actually crave dark, leafy greens! I am so proud of these guys – only a handful of days left and we’ve seen some awesome results.
See, what I mean is, when you’re used to high-intensity sweets like white sugar and high fructose corn syrup you can’t quite appreciate the lovely sweetness of, say…a carrot.
But it doesn’t mean that you won’t want to eat yummy baked goods! It just means that a muffin from Dunkin Donuts starts to taste fake. I really like the challenge of baking delicious treats without sugar – something that I can eat for breakfast without a blood sugar spike. And at 22 weeks pregnant, I am craving baked goods more than ever! So it’s important that I can satisfy the craving without going overboard.
