tripleline Raw Strawberry Oat Bars: Detox recipe 11 of 21

Ooh I’m excited for this recipe! It’s just perfect with strawberries in season – they’ve always been my favorite. What I really love is watching my son eat them because he pays no mind to the juice dripping down his face, he just loves ‘em. (Somehow he always seems to be wearing a white shirt too, but that’s ok.)

Today’s post comes from Lisa at wholehealthdesigns.com. Like so many of our detoxers this time around, Lisa is a mom and she shared this story to go with her recipe:

I always wanted to be one of those women; you know the ones that seem to love every aspect of raising kids. While I soaked in every ounce of their “baby” smell, tandem breastfed until they weaned naturally, and just purely enjoyed being mommy, I didn’t do too well with the lack of sleep, crazy hormones, and the constant touching and wanting. I felt like my body wasn’t really mine. My poor neglected husband…if he tried to give me a hug, I would say “Not now. I need some alone time.”

During college I worked at a seriously cute little Cuban restaurant in Boston’s Back Bay called Mucho Gusto. That place was awesome (sadly it’s no longer open). While I was there I learned to appreciate the amazing flavors of cuban black beans and a dessert called Tres Leches. Mmmmmm boy.

But my favorite snack to grab in the kitchen were tostones. Almost like french fries, tostones are fried and crispy. Who doesn’t love that? My husband was gobbling these down and gave me a strange look when I told him fried plantains were detox-friendly. Well, not any fried plantains. My fried plantains!

If you’re like me, healthy eating often goes down the tubes when you are confronted with a snacking situation. Lately I’ve been eating lunch around 3pm when my son is napping. That means at around 2pm I’m hunting around for something to tide me over.

I’m grateful to this detox for keeping me accountable during these snacky hours of the day! Instead of cookies or crackers I’m going for things like brown rice cakes, fruit, veggie sticks – and roasted chickpeas. Oh yes.

I’ve wanted to try roasted chickpeas for like…years now. When I finally made them a few weeks ago I was disappointed. They were really bland and dry! Hmmm.

Tried another recipe and had similar results.

Finally I found a recipe for salt and vinegar chickpeas and it hit me – these puppies need some serious flavor to come alive! Here is my rendition, which are a little easier than the original and I’ve added even more flavor. I loved them so much I scarfed ‘em down immediately. Maybe double your batch.

tripleline Toasted Cumin Seed Salad with Leeks and Garbanzos: Detox recipe 8 of 21

Cold salad. Warm dressing. There, I’ve said it! It’s the secret to amazing meal-sized salads!

Well, at least this salad.

Which I came up with when I had cumin seeds on the brain. Somehow they’d worked their way to the front of my herb shelf, which is strange because I never use them. Staring at me every time I opened the pantry door, they inspired quietly over time until my brain sorted out what to do with them.

As my detoxers know, I believe in the power of a great dressing. Here’s one that doesn’t even require a blender.

Congratulations to all of my detoxers on completing Week 1! To celebrate, I highly recommend this pudding for dessert. Or, really, for breakfast if you want. It’s that good for you.

I bet a lot of you have childhood memories of chocolate pudding. Not so much here (though Jello Pudding Pops were a favorite, now that I think about it.) Anyway, my love affair with chocolate pudding really took hold during my pregnancy. Funny, how those cravings come out of nowhere. If only I’d had this recipe back then!

tripleline Gorgeous Mediterranean Quinoa: Detox recipe 6 of 21

Honestly, I get sick and tired of quinoa this, quinoa that. The darling of the health food world! A complete protein. Light and fluffy. Easy to cook. Easy to sprout! And you know you’ve earned your Crunchy badge of honor when you can pronounce it without wincing.

Admittedly, it is pretty great. I used to eat it constantly, even just plain with some olive oil and salt. I guess I got a little bored and distracted when my local Whole Foods revamped their bulk bin aisle to sell about a million other grains. (Bhutanese red rice, anyone?)

But a recipe like this…Wowza! It’s enough to get me back in the quinoa game for sure.

A little over a year ago I posted this rant about Pinkberry. Feels like Day 5 of our detox time is a good time to bring it back. We get to enjoy delicious frozen treats just as much as anyone else – the recipe is at the end.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but frozen yogurt shops are kind of a big deal. I see one every time I turn around. Like Pinkberry. Are you familiar? Because apparently they’re in 14 states and 6 countries outside the U.S. And they have a catchy little song with lyrics like these:

tripleline Creamy Coconut Rice Dinner (Wheat free, dairy free, meat free): Detox recipe 4 of 21

Today’s recipe comes from my dear friend Sara at dstreetwellness.com. She’s pretty much hooked us up for tonight’s easy detox-friendly dinner.

Ready?

This is a quick and easy dish with minimal prep – the secret is using frozen vegetables to add color and minimize prep work, plus you can change up the taste of it by picking different combos of frozen veggies each time. (Recently at the store I was psyched to see frozen mushrooms, artichoke hearts and chopped kale!) The rice can be pre-made – another trick for keeping meals quick and easy. The full fat coconut milk makes this dish rich and satisfying.

Know what’s super cool? This is a one pot meal that takes about 15 minutes to make.

Ready to have your mind blown? Families around the country are sitting down to taco night (a favorite, yes?) and this is what they are eating:

Maltodextrin, salt, chili pepper, onion powder, spice, monosodium glutamate (MSG), corn starch, yellow corn flour, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, silicon dioxide (anticaking agent), natural flavor, ethoxyquin (preservative).

tripleline Breakfast scramble (Egg free, dairy free, soy free): Detox recipe 1 of 21

Welcome to Day 1! Let’s start off on the right foot – and that means a healthy breakfast. There’s no way you can grab a muffin or eat a bowl of cereal and feel your best. So we’re gonna lose all those processed, sugar-laden morning options and go for something filling, nourishing and delicious.

Some of us will do great with a big bowl of oats. Or a banana.

But some of us (ahem…) might want more protein. Something a bit more filling.

You may have heard of tofu scrambles, and those are an ok way to go. (I’m not a huge fan of soy. If you are, please buy organic.) But the idea of a scramble that kind of feels like eggs? It’s fab.
